On August 15th, Poland celebrates Armed Forces Day! During the Second World War, the Poles were the fourth largest within the Allies, behind the USSR, the USA and Great Britain. On the Eastern Front, they participated in the liberation of Belarus, Ukraine and Poland, as well as in the Battle of Berlin. As part of the Western forces, Polish formations fought for Tobruk and Monte Cassino, participated in the Battle of Britain and the Falaise Offensive.

Northrop first flew the F-89 Scorpion all-weather interceptor on August 16th, 1948. It was the first jet aircraft designed primarily for the interceptor role, the first to carry air-to-air nuclear weapons — the AIR-2 Genie missile — and one of the first to be equipped with air-to-air missiles. The F-89 Scorpion remained in U.S. service until the late 1960s.

The Ki-96 Temporarily Returns on Shozo Kawasaki’s Birthday!
Shozo Kawasaki was born on August 10th, 1837 in Kagoshima, the city that our recent Naval Event is dedicated to. He was a businessman who worked closely with the Japanese government to establish trade with the Nansei Islands. After being on two ships that were shipwrecked, Kawasaki decided to modernize Japanese ships. He asked for help from fellow countryman Masayoshi Matsukata, who was then the Minster of Finance, and opened a shipyard in 1878. In 1896, the Kawasaki Company was established, and Matsukata’s son (then the Prime Minster of Japan) became its first director. In the 20th century, the company expanded its product range to include trains, cars, motorcycles and aircraft.

The English Electric Lightning jet fighter first flew on August 4th, 1954 and entered service in 1960. In that same year, English Electric merged with other companies to form the British Aircraft Corporation, with the aircraft becoming the BAC Lightning. It was designed to intercept Soviet strategic bombers and served until the late 1980s.

A Decal and Discount on the P-16 for the Anniversary of the Foundation of the Swiss Air Force!
Switzerland approved the creation of its air force on July 31st, 1914, three days after the start of the First World war. The country maintained neutrality in both World Wars and the Cold War, but still continued to upgrade its air force with increasingly capable and modern aircraft. Currently, the F/A-18 Hornet and Northrop F-5 Tiger are in service with the Swiss Air Force and the purchase of 36 F-35A aircraft manufactured by Lockheed Martin has already been announced.

The Attacker FB.2 Temporarily Returns at a Discount for its First Flight Anniversary!
On July 27th, 1946, the Supermarine Attacker took to the skies for the first time. The Attacker was the first jet aircraft in service with the Fleet Air Arm. A batch of Attacker aircraft, designed to take off from airfields rather than from an aircraft carrier, was also developed for Pakistan. The fighters served with Britain until 1957, and Pakistan, according to some sources, until 1964.

Discounts on Sukhoi Aircraft for Sukhoi’s Birthday!
Pavel Sukhoi was born on July 22nd, 1895. From his youth, he aspired to become an aircraft designer, and in 1925 under the supervision of Andrei Tupolev, he defended his diploma thesis and in 1930 became Tupolev’s deputy. In 1937, Sukhoi won a competition to create a light bomber (later called the Su-2) and received the ability to found his own design bureau. In total, Sukhoi developed more than 50 aircraft designs.

The Mitsubishi T-2, Japan’s first supersonic aircraft, first took to the skies exactly 20 years later, on July 20th, 1971. This was a training aircraft that Mitsubishi later developed into the F-1 combat fighter-bomber. The T-2 served for over 30 years from 1975 to 2006.

The Great French Revolution shook the entire world, and one of the first and most important events of that time was the storming of the Bastille prison-fortress on July 14th, 1789. This date was not celebrated for almost a hundred years until 1880, when July 14th became a National Holiday. For this day, a large military parade was introduced in 1880, then transferred to the Champs-Élysées in 1980.
The Israeli A-4E Returns to Mark its First Flight Anniversary!
On July 12th 1961, the A-4E attack aircraft took to the skies for the first time. This aircraft was a more modern version of the A-4 Skyhawk, featuring improved avionics, a more powerful engine, and as many as six hardpoints for secondary weapons. A total of five hundred of this version were built. On September 29th 1967, the first batch of Skyhawks arrived at the port of Haifa. These aircraft served Israel for as many as 48 years until 2015.

On June 15th 1909, the battleship Petropavlovsk was laid down at the Baltic Shipyard in St. Petersburg. In 1921, it was named “Marat” in honor of French revolutionary leader Jean-Paul Marat. Germany’s Wellington Mk Ic Returns for the Anniversary of its First Flight!
On June 15th 1936, the Vickers Wellington made its maiden flight. This was the most widely produced British bomber and was used throughout the Second World War, with more than 11,000 units being built. Wellingtons were used for night bombing, submarine hunting, mine clearing and as carriers of airborne radio detection and guidance systems.
