The Yak-38 was the only Soviet VTOL aircraft to see mass production. It first took off and hovered over ground on September 22nd, 1970. This light carrier-based attack aircraft was intended for service on aircraft carriers with the goal of hitting surface and ground targets during the day in normal weather conditions.

On September 19th, 1969, the Mi-24 took to the skies for the first time, later becoming one of the most popular helicopters in the world. The YP-38 is Temporarily Available for Purchase for its First Flight Anniversary!
The second prototype of the Lockheed P-38 Lightning, the YP-38, made its first flight on September 17th, 1940. The P-38 entered service in mid-1941 and was widely used during the Second World War in the Pacific and Asia. The P-38 was the only American combat aircraft to be mass-produced throughout the entire war.

Nikolay Ilyich Kamov was born on September 14th 1902. In 1940, he became the head of his own design bureau, where he designed the Ka-8, Ka-10, Ka-15, Ka-18, Ka-25 and Ka-26 helicopters. After Kamov’s death in 1973, the bureau continued to use his name and produced further Ka series aircraft, including the Ka-50.

Semyon Alekseevich Lavochkin was born on September 11th 1900. In 1939-40, together with V.P. Gorbunov and M.I. Gudkov, they developed the LaGG-3 fighter, which was widely used at the beginning of the Second World War. This aircraft led to the creation of its successors: the La-5, one of the most widely produced fighter aircraft during the war, and its further development, the La-7.

Germany’s captured Tempest Mk V Is Available at a Discount for the Tempest’s First Flight Anniversary!
The Hawker Tempest first flew on September 2nd, 1942. It was one of the best fighters of the Second World War, with unrivaled speed at low altitudes, allowing it to combat early jet fighters and intercept missiles. Celebrating the 80th Anniversary of the End of World War II!
As a result of the actions of the USA and the Allies in the Pacific theater of military operations, the main Japanese forces at sea and in the air were defeated. In August 1945 after the use of atomic weapons, the declaration of war by the USSR and an offensive by Chinese forces, Japan surrendered. This was formally confirmed on September 2nd, 1945, 80 years ago today. Celebrate the anniversary of the end of World War II with us in War Thunder!

A Discount on the MiG-15bis ISh for the Anniversary of its Adoption into Service!
The MiG-15 jet fighter was designed by the Mikoyan and Gurevich Design Bureau in the second half of the 1940s. The engine was based on the Rolls-Royce Nene, which was located in the tail section of the two-section fuselage. The MiG-15 was accepted into service by the Soviet Air Force on August 23rd, 1949 and was produced in the USSR, China, Poland and Czechoslovakia. In total, more than 17 thousand units of the MiG-15 and its variants were produced!

Prinz Eugen is on a Discount to Celebrate its Launch Anniversary!
The German heavy cruiser Prinz Eugen was named after one of the most outstanding commanders of the 18th century, Eugene of Savoy. Prinz Eugen was launched on August 22nd, 1938 and actively took part in operations during the Second World War. One of its most famous moments was during Operation Cerberus, also known as the Channel Dash, where Prinz Eugen, Scharnhorst and Gneisenau sailed from western France through the English Channel all the way to Germany. Prinz Eugen was one of the few large German ships that remained intact until the end of the war.

National Airborne Day was established in 2002 to honor the first parachute landing of the United States Army on August 16th, 1940.
